Fanning the Flames: King Dari on Trauma, Truth & Turning Pain Into Power
In this episode, we’re joined by King Dari, an emerging artist, musician, and creator from Kansas City, whose journey is defined by resilience, self-discovery, and fearless authenticity.
Growing up in poverty as one of twelve children, fleeing gang-related fires, and navigating environments designed to limit him, King Dari’s story is one of survival and transformation. Becoming the first in his family to graduate from a four-year university, he learned early on that success didn’t come from fitting into a box, but from completely erasing it.
We dive into his openness around mental health, the realities of being an independent artist in a deeply corporate music industry, and how his sound is shaped by an ancestral foundation in gospel music, blended seamlessly with contemporary, secular influences.
