Today, we dive into the dynamic world of Michael, an award-winning composer and producer whose work spans film, television, and pop music. From scoring beloved films like Finding Your Feet and Me and Orson Welles to producing alongside music legends like Paul Oakenfold and Steve Winwood, Michael’s career is a masterclass in versatility and creativity. Michael is an award-winning composer with many film, television and pop music credits to his name. His work on features includes Richard Loncraine’s Finding Your Feet starring Imelda Staunton and Timothy Spall, Richard Linklater’s Me and Orson Welles starring Zac Efron and Clare Danes, and Forget Me Not (Winner, London Independent Film Festival). His music has also appeared in Wild Card (Jason Statham) and Wild Target (Emily Blunt). He has collaborated with legendary, DJ, Paul Oakenfold on Overture Pictures’ Nothing Like the Holidays, Vexille, The Heavy, and most recently, a major new feature length documentary, Citizen Bio (Showtime).
For television, Michael scored the mini-series Dark Angel (PBS, Masterpiece Theatre), Young Dracula (BBC) and many prestigious documentaries including the landmark ocean series for NatGeo, Alien Deep, Einstein’s Big Idea (PBS/Nova), Battle of the Hood and Bismarck, Churchill and the Movie Mogul (BBC) and Queen of the World (ITV/HBO). He is currently completing the HBO Europe series, Tuff Money, with the scoring team ZeroVU (Drifters, Risk).

In 2018 he scored the Peabody Award-winning BBC/PBS documentary, directed by Hugo Berkeley, The Jazz Ambassadors. He has three regional Emmy nominations, winning Best Instrumental Music for PBS’s Tennessee Yearbook and was a finalist in the 2019 Music and Sound Awards for Best Original Composition in Television. In 2019, he was nominated for the Ivor Novello Composers Awards for his piece, Mother Medusae.

Michael has an eclectic background and a broad range of stylistic influences that include everything from rock, classical, jazz, and EDM. He has worked closely with many globally recognized artists as a co-writer, music director and performer, in the studio and live, including Ian Dury, Steve Winwood (Traffic), Jazzie B (Soul II Soul) and Paul Oakenfold.
In the early part of his career, he was an in-demand session musician working with many top recording artists including Curiosity Killed the Cat, Teena Marie, Mark Morrison, Scritti Politti, Sting, The Bee Gees, Melissa Etheridge, Back Street Boys, Des’ree, and Robert Palmer.

Michael is a multi-instrumentalist and in 2006 he gained a Masters in Composition for Screen from the Royal College of Music, London where he was the PRS Sir Arthur Bliss Scholar and was awarded the Joseph Horovitz Prize. As a solo artist, Michael has written and produced three albums including The Long Way Home (2014) which received glowing praise and featured a stellar line up of British jazz stars. When Michael has a spare minute, he likes to get out of the studio and let off steam with the Mike McEvoy band.
